Another perk of Rocketmiles is the ability to book a reservation for someone other than yourself, while still depositing the earned miles into your own loyalty account. We all have friends or family who find booking hotels to be a headache and would gladly hand over the reins — and the points — to take that responsibility off their plate.
Are the Deals on Rocketmiles Worth Booking?
The short answer is: it depends.
For this article, I’m specifically zeroing in on Atmos points earnings, as it’s the loyalty program I know best and can speak to most confidently in terms of value.
As any discerning traveler knows, you should always compare prices across booking platforms to make sure you’re getting a fair deal. Between corporate partnerships, taxes, fees, and loyalty incentives, it can be increasingly murky to even define what constitutes a “good deal” these days. Rocketmiles delivers significantly more redeemable Atmos points than booking direct or through Alaska Vacations, even when the cash price is slightly higher.
The Verdict
Ultimately, the right choice depends on your priorities.
If minimizing cash cost is most important, the Alaska Vacations booking saves about $30. But for points nerds like myself, paying $30 more to earn nearly 7,000 additional Atmos points is well worth it.
Atmos points are widely valued around 1.2¢ per mile. Even without factoring in status points, the 6,795-point difference represents an estimated value of $81.54, based on NerdWallet’s calculator.
Not All Rocketmiles Bookings Are Equal
There’s no clear formula behind Rocketmiles’ points pricing. Two similar hotels may offer vastly different points for similar rates, and longer stays don’t always scale logically.
The two hotels below are a perfect example- the nightly rates are very similar, yet Virgin Hotels earns 1,000 more points per night even though it is only slightly more expensive.
This is why Rocketmiles works best as a comparison tool, not a default booking method.
Will I Earn Hotel Loyalty Points?
While your hotel elite status may still apply (I recommend confirming your loyalty number is attached to the reservation), Rocketmiles functions as an online travel agency. As a result, you will not earn hotel loyalty points for the stay.
Is Rocketmiles Legitimate?
I’ve completed multiple bookings through Rocketmiles without issue and have always received my miles as expected.
That said, while researching this article, I did come across complaints from users who claimed they lost miles when attempting to pay with points. I no longer see that option available, so it may have been discontinued or limited to certain bookings.
